At a day-long gathering to discuss the divergence between the haves and have nots, a Queens College sociology professor made the case last week for Manhattan as the apex of income inequality. Andrew Beveridge , known for his analyses of New York City demographic data, said his research showed that among counties with at least 100,000 people, New York is the "most unequal in the U.S." The median income in Manhattan's top 20% of households is $420,015, nearly 43 times as much as in the bottom quintile, where the middle-earning household pulls in a mere $9,681, according to the professor.
