Untouched by Western journalists except in the presence of American troops, Afghanistan's Korengal Valley was once the most violent part of the Afghan War. Several years ago I was contacted out of the blue by Matt Trevithick and Daniel Seckman, who said that they lived in Kabul and were trying to figure out how to penetrate an area of Afghanistan I knew well: The Korengal Valley, in a remote part of Kunar Province.
